End of year reflections

As we approach the end of the year, it's a good time to reflect.  I like to ask my students several questions typically in a padlet.  I ask them what they learned about themselves, what they loved about the class, what they disliked about the class, and what they would change.  The post are anonymous and all the students can see their peers reply.

I've learned that something I do seem small or pointless to me and they mean a lot to them.  For example, on Friday's I hold an optional review and at the end of the reviews we play gimkit.  I play gimkit with them on these days.  Some students come to the reviews Friday just to play gimkit with me.

My students this year love to play the guess what game.  I have a chat open during class where student can direct message me questions, concerns, or thoughts.  My students enjoy asking me to guess what, without any context. This seems silly but it's help build a connection with some of my students.

Academically, I've learned what has helped them with the course and where they needed more time or support.

If you are getting ready to end the year, I'd suggest doing a reflect day with the students.  Here's a video on how to create a padlet if you aren't sure.

Pixel Art with Math Problems

A pixel art activity provides instant feedback and some excitement.  My students enjoy doing these because they can see right away if they are doing the work correct and they also like to race to figure out the picture first.    Integer Operations Add/Subtract Pixel Art This is an online activity where students complete addition and subtraction of integers. The students will input their answer in the table and a color will appear if they are correct. When the students are finished they will have a picture.   Distribute Equations Pixel Art This in an online activity that has students solve equations with the distributive property. Several of the equations also require knowledge of combining like terms after distributing. Students solve the problem and type the answer in the table, if they are correct a color will appear. When the table is filled they will have a picture. One Step Equations Pixel Art This activity is done online in Google Sheets. The students solve each equatio

Baby Yoda Pixel Art Template

This template is set for 3 sets of answers.  I have the answers that are currently set, you will need to reformat them to use with your content.   Baby Yoda Pixel Art Template Be on the lookout for this activity given 2 ordered pairs and asking for slope, y-intercept, and the equation of a line.  I'm also formatting this for converting between percents, decimals, and fractions.  If you want to reformat it before I post the above activities here is how.

Gimkit Tag Domination

Gimkit came out with a new mode called Tag: Domination.  This is currently one of my students favorite modes(fishtopia is the other).  This game is similar to physical tag.  Students are split into 2 teams.  To earn energy to run and get upgrades, students must correctly answer questions.  The time to tag and run away alternate and students can see which one they are in on the top left of the screen.  At the end, the team with the most tag win.
