Blooket Game

A week ago my students kept asking to play Blooket so I looked into it.  Blooket is much like Kahoot and Gimkit but they earn money.  Blooket has several different game modes and the students LOVE IT.  Once a student has been eliminated they will keep playing to earn more gold which they can use to buy rare items.  Each week Blooket has a theme and those rare items can be bought for the week and then they are gone; the items include accessories or special characters they can play as.  My students will play for hours if we let them.  When we finish a game they are ready for another round.  Blooket has a FREE version which has been enough for my class but you can also upgrade to a paid version.  They have games that are already made or you can create a new game.   My students love the battle royale mode and the gold quest the best.  If you haven't given it a try I would highly suggest it.

The Real Number System Packet

Teachers have a lot on their plate in a normal year and this year its more so hopefully this notes packet saves you some time and stress.   The Real System Packet contains notes, practice, an additional sort, maze, homework, exit ticket, and a quiz.  Almost the entire packet has a digital and printable copy of each of the assignments or activities.  The digital copies are set up to self grade so you will be able to get a report of students scores when they complete the assignment.  If you are doing printed copies, answer keys are provided for each of the assignments or activities.   Real Number System Packet

DonorsChoose Match Offers

If you are looking to get supplies for a project or activity but don't want to ask people for donations, donorschoose.org currently has 2 match offers that will get you $100 for completing each.  First you need an account if you don't have one you can start here:  http://share.donorschoose.org/nBBrC.  Time is very important when it comes to match offers as funding is limited.  The first match offer is CS First Unplugged.  The activity has videos to help students through the process of simple coding.  Once atleast 10 of your students completed the activity, you can submit a form about the activity and earn the $100.  I typically do the CS activities because they are easy for students to follow, this one has an activity on coding an emoji.  I know class time is tight so I put the information out there and then incentive with a piece of candy, music break, or something the student enjoys for a few minutes in exchange for doing an activity outs...

The Real Number System

The Real Number System often requires repetition for students to understand.  I've created a packet that has several activities to mix up their practice.  It also includes notes, homework, and a quiz as well.  I hope you find this helpful.   Real Number System Packet

4 in a Row Mental Math

Basic math facts often hinder students in current math curriculum.  Hopefully, these 4 in a row games will help students enjoy practicing their mental math facts while improving their skills. Multiplication Facts 4 in a Row Numbers 0-6 Multiplication Facts 4 in a Row Numbers 6-12

Factoring Fun

Factoring can be fun.   These activities have students practice factoring in an interactive way.  The factoring maze would be a great first activity since all of the leading coefficients are 1.  The maze can be printed or done in Google Slides.  The factoring bingo would be an activity to sum up the material.  The bingo includes greatest common factors, leading coefficients that are prime, and leading coefficients that are greater than 1.  I like to play self paced bingo with my students but you can play live online or print for students.  Factoring Bingo Factoring Maze Leading Coefficient of 1

Equatio for Nice Equations

The Equatio Extension is a must have if you teach math.  You can find the extension in the Chrome Web Store. The extension has a 30 day trial and if you love it, which I do, you can fill out a teacher form and use it for free.  Equatio can be used on Google Slides, Google Docs, Google Forms, and more.  Equatio has many nice features, I like the ease of use the most.  Once you open the extension is appears at the bottom of your screen and you can type, write, or do a mix of both to insert equations into your work.  Unlike equations in Google Docs, it stays open until you close it so no longer clicking every time you want to insert a new equation. Hope you find it as helpful as I have.

Free Online Whiteboard, see ALL students work

It's been a struggle to see what each student is doing virtually in live time but whiteboard.fi was a game changer.   Start by clicking new class and then select the settings that you prefer.  I share the link with my students in the chat for them to click on instead of typing in the information.   To start click toggle my whiteboard and write your problem or insert your picture.  You can add a coordinate grid to your problem if you want.  Once you have the problem the way you want click push and select how you want it to go to students, I do push page.  This will appear on students screens.  Once the students have it you can watch their work in live time as they write on their whiteboards. The picture above is from my class working on writing equations of a line.  This was incredibly helpful to me because I could see where each student was in the process and their thought process.  Some students pulled up the graph paper and graph...

Free Inequalities Activities

Teaching inequalities is supposed to be quick and easy since you just taught equations, but from experience, it’s not. I’ve found it's best to teach inequalities in steps (just like equations) so I’ve made activities to go through that process.  Here are the activities:       One Step Inequalities Maze   Two Step Inequalities Digital Walk Around Distribute Inequalities Bingo Variables on Both Sides Inequalities Walk Around Graphing Inequalities on a Number Line Drag and Drop Inequalities Escape Room Other free activities for various topics can be found here.

How to Create Maze Activities plus Free Examples

A maze is a self check activity that students enjoy and teachers can use to quickly assess student understanding. See below on how to create your own or just use one of my free templates/activities.  Creating a maze requires about a 15 minute set up and then time to add your content.  The great part is once you set up a template you like, you can reuse it over and over again.  To create your own maze open a new Google Drawings (in your Google Drive).  Select the shape you want to hold your questions; I typically pick a square or circle.  After you select the shape, copy it (Control+C) and paste it (Control+V).  You repeat this process until you have a row.  Once you have a full row hold down your mouse and drag over the row and copy it.  You can then paste it and drag it into place.  You will repeat pasting until you get the number of rows you want.  To connect your questions, I use arrows or rectangles.  Pick yours and put i...

Drag and Drop Activities (or Cut and Paste) using Google Slides

Engaging yet guided activities such as a drag and drop allow students to work at their own pace but not become overwhelmed. Domain and range is a topic that is often difficult for students to grasp and the last thing I want is a free response form where they aren't getting quick feedback.  A drag and drop activity is a great way for them to check their understanding.  When using a drag and drop activity the students have a limited number of answer choices and thus if their answer is not there, they must seek help or rework the problem.   As a teacher a drag and drop is a quick check they can share their response with you and you can look over it quickly and discuss any changes that need to be made. In the classroom, I would print this on 2 slides per page and have them complete it as a cut and paste.  The benefits of using 2 slides per page reduces the amount of paper needed but also limits their choices for each question.   Drag and drops are e...

Free Equations Activities

I love having my students work on activities and games instead of a traditional worksheet.  Creating or finding just the right activity to fit what I'm looking for can be a challenge.  I started making activities that my students enjoy and that allow me to pull students away for small group help.   These resources are all free to use in your classroom.       A walk around is a great activity to get the students up and about while allowing them to check their own work.  By using a walk around, students can work at their own pace, be out of their seats, and check their work.  They each start at a different problem, once working out the equation, they find their solution on another paper and complete that problem.  The students complete the problems until they end up back at their original problem.  Here is a  One Step Equations Walk Around .        A maze is a self paced activity w...
